SRK's back baby!!! And back in a big way! I seem to be getting into a habit of writing about movie reviews more than anything in my blog..Its either movie reviews or song lyrics! Well, those are two things I love a lot in life n so I guess I can write more easily about it more than anything.. I've been a avid movie buff right from childhood... And as for songs n lyrics..well..It was kind of a hobby for me in my childhood-buying song books..Those were not the days of internet like today, when all you have to do is type in the first few words n bingo-you get a few dozen sites giving you the lyrics of the song! Those days, the only way to learn a song is to buy song books and memorize. And one habit which still sticks to me is that once a song has caught my fancy, I immediately wanna learn the lyrics by heart so that I can hum the song to myself all the time. And No, I do not get bored listening to the same song again n again! :D I still remember waiting for each weekend while in school to go n rampage the neighbourhood stores to hunt for song books containing any song which had caught my fancy. I still have my collection intact too-well over 100 books! :D Ah well...Stamp collection..coin collection..mine is song book collection ! Atleast, its a collection with a difference ;)
Oh...I'm diverting from my topic...Anyways...It was Eid hols recently and the only decent movie released was Rab Ne. The promos looked interesting and so I thought I'll watch first day first show for a change ;) Usually I read reviews before going to watch a movie coz of the amount of trash movies being churned out now-a-days! Well, Rab Ne surprised me for one thing. I mean, SRK has become more of a star now than an actor but he still comes back once in a while to show you his acting prowess and prove why he is still called King Khan. Rab Ne has him in two roles-one of the common day simpleton you see all around you but fail to take much notice. And the other of the flashy cool dude who's actions n words are anything but subtle! Its the in-your-face-attitude style! Now, SRK does have a tendency to ham in the best of parts-I remember almost dozing off during most of the first hour of OSO coz of the constant over-acting by SRK. But in Rab Ne-he manages to carry off the diverse roles with complete elan and poise. I always felt that portraying humane characters are hard than the superhero or unbeleivable characters on screen. And in Rab Ne, both the characters of SRK go thru the gamut of emotions any normal guy would go through in life. The simpleton falling in love with a vivacious gal, who goes into transports of delight when she shows even the slightest affection for him..his pain when being told to his face that his wife can never love him-all this just tugs at your heart because of the way SRK has portrayed it on screen. His earnestness definitely scores points. On the other side, even the entrance as a cool dude deserves points. With one hand, he's practicing his cool dude entry routine while his other hand is busy pulling down the bottom of his tight skin fit jeans! True his age does not help him get into the skin of the dude character but then the character is of a middle aged guy who still acts and dresses as a hep guy. Anyways, I really loved the movie..One of SRK's finest since Chak De though both movies are totally different styles.
And as far as reviews go, I read two reviews-one praising and one blasting the movie. For the movie critique who blasts a movie like Rab Ne, I'll just say this-not all movies are meant to be watched with the head. And yes, if you sit and watch Rab Ne thinking of it as an intelligent movie, you'll find enuf n more potholes and loose ends in the script. But I suggest, you sit n watch the movie with your heart. If you do, you'll find the movie refreshing, innocent and sweet. And to the people who have known love, you'll definitely think of knowing love again and those have not known yet, well it sure does show you how beautiful it is! Oh and it does help that the heroine is a real looker-I havent seen many gals look so stunning in an ordinary punjabi salwar ! :) And though her part does not have much depth in terms of acting, she's done more than well for a debutante.
And the music is over all good too (I loved it) esp the title song which still haunts me and the breezy Haule Haule. And Vinay Pathak makes a good pair for SRK in the comedy scenes. All in all, the movie was worth the 2.5 hrs in theatre... In fact, I'm thinking of going to watch it again this weekend!! :)
